В «Новой надежде» мы знакомимся с Люком Скайуокером, когда он и его дядя Оуэн покупают C-3PO и R2-D2 у группы Джав. Это хорошее введение, и оно позволяет поставить двух дроидов в эпицентре истории. Тем не менее, удаленные сцены из фильма показывают, что изначально планировалось преподнести Люка по-другому.
Джордж Лукас снял несколько сцен на Татуине, которые позже были вырезаны из фильма. В них было видно, что Люк занимается не только сельским хозяйством.
